How do I go about this?

Thinking about buyin one sim free..

Do I need to jailbreak it?

which version?
i take it u mean sim free from o2?
In that case yes it would need unlocking and jailbreaking.
Plenty of guides around. easy enough too

Yeah just noticed that there..

Also.. Anyone had any experience with getting out of an existing contract?

I'd almost rather get out of my orange contract and start a new o2 one.

unless you're in the cooling off period (usually upto 14 days), there's no chance you're getting out unless you fork up the remaining months, in which case you might as well keep your contract.

It can work out cheaper to buy the iPhone off O2 on PAYG, rather than taking out a contract with them.
