this may seem silly but i have been wondering for a while. do f1 cars have a physical throttle and brake pedal or is it all done through the steering wheel?

watching f1 highlights and cant see any physical leg movement to suggest the presence of pedals?

when the camera on top of webbers car was on the tv, you could see his thighs moving.

they probably will have some sort of sterring wheel paddle brake/accelerator in the future, but for now it's easier just to use convential pedals

A bit silly yes.
The throttle is fly-by-wire obviously not the brakes.

i'm guessing it's basically the same sort of system as i had in the ferrari 430 scuderia i drove.

i had to press a button to engage 1st gear or reverse from neutral, then i just pressed the accelerator and off i went.

Sort of yes, they have to hold a button down to stop them stalling in gear, but if it senses you about to stall pulling away it goes into neutral automatically.

KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System

uses energy from braking to charge then released stored power when required

Can only use it for something like 6 seconds per lap in F1. Not all cars have it due to teams thinking it needlessly increases weight for not a great power increase. Doesn't it give you something like 80BHP more whilst pressing it?

Only McLaren have successfully used the KERS system to their advantage, BMW and Renault dropped it like a lead balloon months back and Ferrari still haven't got the hang of it.
