hi all. im building up a nova rally car with x14xe engine running standard management. i have removed the ignition barrel from the column so as to remove the steering lock.
i had planned to just fit a push button start rather than remounting my ignition barrel elsewhere, has anyone else done this? im not too sure exactly how the transponder keys work, i would prefer to just do away with the key and barrel altogether.

I am not quite sure but I have heard of people taking the chip out of the key and taping it to the ECU. I m not 100% sure if the ecu needs the chip or whether it;s just the reciever on the barrel. Also not all of them had chips, best thing to do is open up the key and check

that method was mentioned, but i only have the ECU and key. as its in the nova i dont have the controller unit on the barrel (which is also coded to match ecu and key) so would need to find a whole matched set or get another controller coded.

and as far as ive been told the key chip is to be taped to the controller on the barrel

have also been told of a company who will recode the ECU to remove all immobiliser functions negating the need for the chip and controller atall, which is what i'll do.

The "chip" im 99.9% you need. The transponder as far as im aware is just an amplifier for the signal of the chip to ecu.

Not sure though.

You have the chip in the key, the chip reader which sit arounds the barrel, and the ecu. All 3 are matched as a set, change any one of the 3 for another without reprogramming and the factory immobiliser will cut in
