Renault 5 GTT will probs beat a 1.6 sport across a 1/4 mile yes, as they are just a biscuit tin with a 1.4 turbo.

I'd love one, there's 2 round my way one of them being a bog standard one which is mint. I'm pretty sure it would destroy a 1.6 corsa over 1/4 mile, they're nippy cars as standard. Some people say they have reliability issues but I can't comment on that as I've never owned one.

They are a cool car, my mates a renault nut and between him and his sister they have had 5 or 6 of the things. I can safely say that as far as reliability goes it completely differs from each car depending on its background.

For example he had one he paid £900 for and it was an absolute dog, head gasket, turbo etc were all in need of replacing. gearbox went and steering rack went. His sister hada mint white one that never gave her a problem in the year or so she owned it. all it needed was oil and plug change and that was it.

If your buying one, buy one thats been owned by an enthusiast (try the RTOC website) or if you buy a cheap one, make sure you rebuild it and prepare yourself for lots of little niggles along the way.
