Anyone on here work in this area within the oil industry?

Looking for a bit of nformation as the rig manager of the rig im currently working on as a trainee mechanical technician has asked if id consider moving over to the well services side of things and is putting my name forward for a well services trainee position

I know it involves wireline, working on wellheads / xmas trees etc

Would mean working on different rigs under exxonmobil and working down in Angola aswell

Hmmm I'll speak to my mate at Halliburton, he's a wireline tech - see what I can find out for you.

Work your way up as a Mechanical tech and you might one day be an OIM

Wouldnt fancy it myself where we are but then we've got pretty much everything outsourced in that sort of dept. I like to be in a routine not shoved from one place to the next at short notice like some of the guys seem to be.

Does exxonmobil retain a fair bit of core crew then? Shell only has Op's staff, everything else is contracted out. Seawell does all the well/wireline stuff where I am.

I'll be moving on from Tiffying onto Ops Tech roll in another 18 months.

I used to fix winches, most of them looked like they sat in the North Sea the whole time they were out on hire.

I do the crewing for the Helix Seawell!!!!

Well Services seems like a really interesting thing to get into! Using the ROV's etc!! I understand the £££ is pretty good too!!

Im not sure what the coin is like tbh. Probably be substantial though, a bloody scaff gets paid £50k a year ffs!!

I just prefer the idea of a secure rotation. Wireline/well services/drilling are knocked about a bit & are often on standby!!
