personally, I'd recommend Acer... mate of mine has a Dell XPS, suffers from constant failures due to overheating or just general shitty build quality...

He's got a bad one then, in general they are really good.
He should have also got a replacement if he's complained about the same problem 3 times.

I think we've had this discussion before, he should have sent it back and went elsewhere if it happend twice, they should have been quite happy to refund.
