I have finally decided to buy the Carrera Fury 09 for off road and general exercise. All the reviews are excellent. But what is putting me off is it only seems to be for sale at halfords, and there after sales is not the best...

Anyone else know where they're sold? BTW, it was £599.99, now £480...

Oh and would it make sense to buy after Christmas?

Thanks fellow Corsasporters

Carrera are Halford's own brand I think. One reason why some people avoid them, although I have read good reviews too

Check what ChainReactions have to offer before you buy from halfords.

I'd agree with Doug if you're looking to spend that sort of money look as Specialised, Kona, Scott etc.

I'd deffo be looking on Chainreaction if I had that kind of dough to spend Monster. I'd be looking at a GT or a Specialised too.

Better to start with a good base from a better manufacturer and add to it rather than buy a cheap bike with all the bells and whistles, as all the bells and whistles will be cheap ones.

Carrera are halfords own brand, and for the money they are very well specced and built. Aftersales is better than most cycle dealers too...

Says on the boxes they come in 'exclusive to halfords' so either its false advertising or they are halfords own.

carrera are bikehut branded not halfords.

halfords stuff is made by halfords in effect.

bikehut stuff is branded companies making it for them

IE tools: cyclo
tyres:tioga
bars: tioga

Fury isnt a bad bike by any means, however the forks on this years model imo let it down a touch from the rock shox of last years

Yep halfords own brand

I have an 05 fury that I bought when I used to work in bikehut.

Only just moved on from it and its still my commute bike.

Good bikes for the money and if you could get some kind of cycle to work deal it would be a steal

I can't agree with that, I have an 07 Fury. Which according to every review when I bought it was pretty much the best bike for the price. Still runs and rides brilliantly. Great spec, lovely bike.

If your a name snob go for something else.

I agree with spikedjack though, the earlier bikes had better forks so I'm only speaking from experiance with my own bike

I part time at halfords at the minute in the bikehut part just as a mechanic there and the store i work at has a good name for repairs.

Your local one might have a load of muppets there, but fixing pushbikes is the easiest job in the world so if they cant get it right then they must be absolute retards.

Carrera are good quality bikes, easily on par with my specialized hardrock. Kona and gt bikes they sell are good too... its jut the apollo and trax shite that are dire and come from the factory broken lol.

Yer aftersales arnt great all the time. Our store was good as we were all properly cytec trained and were a bike hut. But some normal stores are just run by jokers.

Cant fault the bikes though mine

In four years the only bit that died other then wear and tear items were the cranks. But I did do some hard miles on it

Now ride this

But when I have to go somewhere and lock the bike up unattended I take the carerra and still find it a nice ride

The things letting that fury down are the crap frame and forks. The rest seems ok tbh.

Thats the main thing tho, each manufacturer will spend different amounts in different areas. Carerra frame cost fook all to make, so they can spend there £ on decent gears brakes and wheels.

Were-as for example the Specialized Hardrock pro will have a much better frame, and 10x better forks. But a lesser specced drivetrain and wheelset

Cant comment on the 09 but the 05 had really good geometry and was nice and stiff.

Agree the forks werent the best but no complaints on the frame from me

Maybe on the newest model. Certainly not the older ones

"What's most significant though, is the RockShox Tora fork. For a £500 bike, it's outstanding. Its damped travel is adjustable between 85 and 130mm at the turn of a dial; you can lock it out, and you can adjust the rebound. On the trail it feels firm and controlled, whether you're balancing on the pedals over rock gardens, hitting stutter bumps or landing drop-offs. It's not particularly light but at this price that's hardly a criticism."

aftersales is down to local store.

and down to the rider knowing how to look after a bike too. a cycle requires constant looking after.
cable adjustments, cleaning, oil-ing, etc.
