Has anyone had an experience of implementing sotware licence complicance/management in a corporate enviornment?

Just finishing off my interview prep but in previous jobs Ive never had to order SW/HW and the compliance was looked after by governance.

So how would you ensure an appropriate software licence compliance is in place and adhered to?

No idea how S/W is deployed in this place btw.
