a friend of mine wants to re-shell his corsa sri and has a suitable shell ready, but we are both wondering how do you go about declaring this

what have people on here done when they have re-shelled a car

or any ideas

keep the original identity of the DONAR shell.. if you dont, it will end up on a Q plate

unless its a brand new shell it will have to keep the identity it came with,

Get the V5 for the shell, change the engine number to the sri one, put all the sri stuff into the shell...DONE.

i just rang the dvla and they said i can change the chassis numbers on the v5 if i can prove where the new shell came from e.g the v5 for that shell

does that sound right

You can change the chassis number on your V5 to the chassis number of the donar shell if you have the V5 for it.
Came across this a long time ago.

how is that legal? so if i have 2 cars and both v5's i can swop chassis numbers and identitys?

That's how it came about Dave.
I had to invistigate the identity of a suspected porsche 968 CS.
It turned out the guy that sold the car had 2 identical black ones
wrote one off and switched the identity round as the other was newer
then sold it on. After totally stripping it to a bare shell and checking part numbers etc
the police said it was not illegal.
