...brings this country to a standstill. People in Alaska, Canada, Finland, Norway, Siberian Russia etc dont whine about when it snows. They just get on with there lifes. Yet a lil bit of snow and this country stops completely. Buses cancelled, everyone crashes there cars, trains cancelled, weather warnings left right and centre. I just don't get why we cant get on with it...

Rant over.

Yeah you're right, you know what?, I agree.

I think I'll create another thread about it.

because people in those other countries have measures to ensure they can get on with things

like proper winter tyres and probably snow plows to go around the streets.

we dont have it in this country because the snow isnt as bad as over there!

thing is, its not just a little bit, its alot here and because the stuff from last few days ago has not melted its like driving on an ice rink, people have no experience in it, they dont have nails or pins or tyres on their tyres so it is stupid to try and compare it to equipped countries.

Alot of people here dont seem to know how to drive in snow, I live on a quite steep hill and people are revving the fuck out of their cars to get up, sliding left and right, back and forth, and it stinks of burning clutch, then a small old micra keeping the revs low strolls up like it was nothing.

absolutely agree. imagine people from dubai having to drive in the rain for 11 months in a row. they wouldnt know what to do as probably have only seen rain on a hollywood film.

i was thinking this the other day.

but then, you realise we all drive around on summer tyres in the uk so don't have the correct equipment for the job.

always wondered what the tyre man was talking about when he told me they'd stoped production a few months back of my tyres i needed to manufacture winter tyres for northern europe.

now i understand.

Comparing us to the likes of Finland who have 5m people is silly tbh.

The whole theory of 'well the other countries handle it' is fucking ridiculous tbh, and anyone throwing it about is a retard.

They have lived with that weather for years upon years, and have learned to adapt. We get proper snow once in a blue moon so havent had to adapt.

Id love to see how those countries you mention would handle a serious drought, or even torrential rain, etc.

And if we invested the same kind of money in 'snow defences' the country would be in uproar because it'll be needed what, twice a year?! Great value.
