When the car isn't moving, of course the temp guage is gonna go up!
And when it comes to the heater blowing mildly warm or cold air, could be the thermastat has died.

it goes up more after stationary for a few minutes, if stationary for 30 seconds or so idle speed will be cooler than the previous revs hence it not climbing much initially

Stuck in traffic for 15 minutes and it doesnt budge, i've not know many modern cars that do get hot when stationary....

I had 3 corsa b's and all 3 of them went up to 100 sitting stationary, the fan kicked in and brought it back down to 95 then it did the same process again. Never once bothered me. I've known of 7 or 8 local to me including the 3 I had all doing the same,I wouldn't batter an eye if I seen it happen in the next one I end up in
As for the heaters,as said could be a dodgy or knackered thermostat

Maybe its the way the engines are designed I guess. My last few cars havent budged on the temp stuck in traffic, sub zero temps or otherwise.

If stationary for a while, mine goes up to about 98 then the fan kicks in and knocks it down to around 92.

General chat? wrong forum for this..
Your temp gauge will go up the same as other people have said then the fan should kick in and bring the temp back down thats just a corsa thing.
Its not going to be a dodgy thermostat as that part of your system is working fine indicated by the fan coming on and the ecu controlling the coolant temp with use of the fan.
It will more then likely be a mechanical problem with the flap that diverts the air from your heater blower over your heater matrix stuck on the cold setting. When you rotate the dial from cold to hot on the dash can you feel it or here it moving the flap on the heater matrix? The connection on them sometimes breaks and the heating gets stuck on where ever the flap ends up.

Most modern cars wont display a change in coolant temp when stationary in traffic but the actual coolant temp will still rise. Think about it there is no rush of air over the rad when stopped to cool the coolant so staying still for any length of time the temp is only going to heat up and the fan will eventually come on to control it.
Modern cars have a tolerance on the gauge so say 90 degrees to 100 degrees the dash display remains in the middle as that is normal operating temp. This way it looks nicer so people dont start worrying their cars are overheating in traffic.

I still can't believe some cars, e.g. the ford KA doesnt even have a temp gauge!!!

if your heaters only blow cold and your car temperature is rising badly, check your engine water. Would maybe suggest your head gasket is going?

My corsa use to go up and then fan would take it back down.
Golf once warmed up just sits on 90 and doesn't move.
