Remember this pic:
Basically the head gasket has gone on my Astra, and to sort it out inc. supplying and fitting new parts, and getting the head "skimmed", the garage I use want 350 English Pounds.
Oil is leaking from there down the front side of the engine on to the exhaust downpipe, so if I floor it, clouds of smoke come from my engine bay when I stop, and also go into the cabin (nearly shit myself the other day I thought my engine was on fire!) 
Oh well...

350 is reasonable for the head skimmed aswell. some places ask 300 odd for just the head gasket doing

To be honest they seem alright where I go, he didn't charge me for looking at it today, probably because I spent £150 the other week getting it serviced and having the aircon regased!

lol i paided out 700 quid for a 2,0 16v one to be done but that was with a new head

sams is a 16V so its a fair price id say.
Depends a bit on what they do in the price. 90% of the time if im doing headgasket i will fit new plugs thermostat and timing belt at the same time. Always skim the head and change oil and filter too!

30 quid an hour is cheap. especially for the area mikorsa.

It's a 1.4 16v Ecotec engine (X14XE).
Thing is I had the belts and rollers etc. changed about just over 2 months ago, and it was serviced just over a week ago, would I still need to change the cam belt and stuff again? I suppose to be on the safe side they should?

I would charge £250 with head skim/ head set/ head bolts. no need to change belt put on the safe side just change belt £26 +vat rrp from vauxhall.
Astras are alot easier than 14 16v in corsas.

when my gasket went cus i ran it with no water, i just replaced the gasket. It cost me £24 because I had to redo the gasket (so that's £12 per head gasket) due to oil pipe being blocked the first time with old gasket and about 16 hours labour because the first time we took manifold off etc and didn't really understand what we were doing. But yer, doing it yourself (if you can), is definitely worth it due to saving a lot of money, didn't need to replace thermo or waterpump or anything, didn't even replace the head bolts and the engine is still strong over 10k+ miles later

350!!!!! My old 307 Hdi was about a grand as basically had to drop the engine!

£350 sounds reasonable. Cheap in fact when you consider the work that needs to be done.
