I'm going to look at a 2001 clio 172 saturday.
can anyone give me any tips i should look out for? things to check? things that go wrong?

Belts are the biggest things IMO...also make sure it's got decent tyres on ie Conti's etc.

I found a decent company near us that does them cheap graham...Birchdown Renault specialists.

air con needs to work
exhaust rots
noisey pulley for vvt
hazard switch likes to play up

they drive pretty much the same, the mk1 has 15" wheels tho

Just seemed qucker to me
Lighter, more basic, not fly by wire etc
Drives supercharged Tec with torque

steering wheel goes distoted cost about £300 +... strut tops start knocking.. like said aux belts 36k cam belts 72k

Aux belts and cambelts are exactly as reliable/unreliable as any other car, still don't know how it got to be such a big deal apart from cliosport.

they are just as reliable but on the 16v renaults , when the aux belt lets go the thing wraps itself around the crank and jumps teeth/bends valves. thats why they should be changed and checked regular.

I had a phase 2 cup, and had the gearbox replaced under warrenty, I like the look of the first one, but a horrid dash. It should be ok if well serviced.
