Download microsoft security essentails/malware antibytes/avg9 on another computer and install/run it in safe mode on your bothers computer.

Then check DNS/proxy settings

Check DNS settings, clear cache on the browser and see what happens, try opendns if that doesnt help

oh btw he doesnt live at home although he is up next week and no one else lives with him so no other computer

will have to tell him to wait till he's up if he hasnt got it working by then.

Sounds similar to a problem I'm having.

On our desktop we've been using Firefox for a while but it keeps only part loading pages or you have to try a few times before they'll load so I installed Chrome. Seemed to be alright for a bit then my dad started moaning earlier on that it was the same again so I tried Opera which I've been using for the past couple of months without issue and every page I've tried to load does nothing.

I know it installed an update yesterday which I believe was the security update for the recent problem they've had with it so whether that could play a part I'm not sure.

I've not really had a chance to look at it yet cos other people have been using it but id I find anything I'll let you know.
