Ive just got my new Barcleycard through the post, and its one of these new ones with contactless technology. It says on the leaflet that comes with it
quote:
Contactless Payments
You can make contactless payments for purchases of £10 and under. Simply hold your card close to the reader in shops where you see the contactless symbol. All with the same 100% fraud guarantee as your normal chip and PIN
But whats to stop someone from finding my card and spending on it??? I dont get how there it can be at all safe. If i lost it, someone would usually need my pin to spend. But apparantly not now

Seems like a gimmick to me. And the adverts are shit. The waterslide one was ok, but then they obviously realised people liked it so made the same one but with a rollercoaster. Random.

Every couple of transactions it will ask for pin. If someone gets your card they wont get much.

what happens if someone is buying something and you walk past just as they are taking payment, do you end up paying it for them?

my Barclaycard I've had for ages also has this. I've never used it, as most places charge a premium for credit under £10 I know Pret a Manger has the system.

I thought exactly the same when I seen that new advert, waste of time.
I use my credit card for everything and I've only found a couple of places that charge you for using a card, normally for all amounts.

It's no gimmik, it's the future. It's limited to small purchases of less than £10, you wouldn't leave cash lying around for people to steal so why do the same with your cards?
Your mobile phone will be having similar capability soon too so that carrying small change around will be a thing of the past.

I detest carrying cash but putting my pin in doesn't really bother me.

I say bring on under skin implants
They should develop a chip that contains your passport, driving liscence, bank account etc
Then you literally just scan your hand or something

I think this is a great idea, but Labour would abuse something like this

My cousin told me about this years ago when he lived in Hong Kong. He accidentally paid for something twice because he had a card that did it and a watch and "swiped" the card with the watch hand
