Just bought my mates engine (astra GTE 20XE) off him and was just wondering the rough BHP figure for the spec. Im not expecting it to be that high really.
-Piper Fast road cams (standard pulleys).
-Fully lightened and balanced bottom end/ flywheel.
-Uprated clutch.
-Powercap.
-Aparently chipped ECU (doesnt look like its been opened so probably not.
Id say only about 155-165bhp? Although i havnt got a clue.
Cheers

AH bollocks. ha. Im useless with this stuff. I was told it was out of an astra gte, and i thought they were only fitted with the early engine? I fail Ile find out more details when i collect it.
Not sure whether this is true or not but i read somewhere that to do a cambelt kit, and crankshaft seals is an engine out job on a XE corsa, is this true? Wondering if its worth replacing before i put the engine in?

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Ive had a look on Autovaux.com and there cambelt kits seem quite cheap. Bye the looks of the pics the late kit has plastic rollers and the early has metal, is this correct? £42 for the late kit.

If it is late will be square tooth belt think it may have plastic rolleres yes, though all mine have been early round tooth, you need to make sure it has right injectors for ecu. Early motronic 2.5 are creams and as you said late coilpack versions which ate motronic 2.8 run blues, as for bhp a realistic 165 is what i'd be hoping for.

Regarding power output thats assuming the engine is in 100% health, has it ever been rebuilt bearing in mind it could be circa 20 years old?

The date stamp on my cam caps is 1987! These engines are very strong but as said when you start getting into double figures in terms of years old you need to think about rebuilding them, this reflects in the price though, back in 1990 you would have paid a grand for an xe in 2000 you would have been looking at £500 now you can pick them up for £200! Same with any engine

Right. Ive text him about the engine and he said its an early dizzy one. Ive got the ECU next to me, it a Motronic 2.5 which is right for the dizzy engine, but ive got blue injectors here too. Ive text him and he said he got the injectors out of a cav at the scrapyard.
Is this ECU going to work with the late injectors?

should be creams on a 2.5 they run different fuel pressure to, there will be some info over on mig about the flow rates etc or you could just bung a set of creams in.
