hello
i was just wondering why the 1.8s are such a popular conversion as i am thinking of converting my car but surly the 1.8 is harder to convert and more expensive then a 1.6 and its onli a little more powerful
and how much would it cost to convert a car to a 1.8 because isnt a 2.0 more cost effective
i probably sound stupid because theres probably a good answer im just curious
any help would be great
thanks

all that i know is the 1.8 thats used is fairly tunable its a small block engine so mounts up to the existing mounts and gearbox

2.0 conversion instantly has more power and torque. a c16xe is more tuneable than a 1.8 as there are more products developed for it.

They aint popular, you hardly ever see a big block 1.8 16v conversion because for the same effort you can instantly start with more power/torque from a xe.

it's not the c18xe that is popular, it's the x18xe1 which is popular because it's a 1.8, it's a small block and it keeps up with redtops up to 60mph.

It's what I've been told, due to them being a small block, a 1.8 engine, and the redtop being 2litre and a very big block..well, whatever. I'm sure they're not far behind

well how much weight do you save from a x18xe1 to a redtop?
cus 30bhp...it sounds a lot, but if you can make it back up in weight, cus the smallblock/bigblock comparison

30kg's on 900kg car wont equal 30bhp of weight difference.
look at the facts and figures of an x18xe1 in a vectra which they came in, and an x20xev in a vectra which they came in. the 2.0 would smash its pasty in all day long. why would this change in a corsa?

I'm not saying it would, just asking about weight, that's all

an x18xe1 is about say the same as a 2.0 8v astra gte power and torques. compare that to a 2.0 16v astra gte and there is quite a difference.
