I would like to know this also.
I think it may depend on what hardware your running though.

Mine hasnt been turned off since it was built in November, the previous build was on for circa 2 years

I've worked it out before but can't remember now, I don't even think it was £50 a year, might have been half of that.

I've got a server that's been running 24/7 for years.

It depends on what computer you have etc, I worked it out on my desktop and that was on 24hrs a day, over the year it cost me £131.40 extra that on the basis that the computer is used for 12 hours and 12 on standby.

My desktop is quite old around 5 years old, I am using an energy monitor called the Owl. You put a clip around a wire that leads into the fuse box and then the monitor gives you a reading on a seperate screen. It gives a reading in pence per hour.

Turned everything off (including fridges etc) and just left the computer on and then it told me how much it was using per hour and worked it out from there. Simples!

When you start wondering how much things use up in power, you're in trouble.

Why not just at a timer for stand by? Let the machine turn it's self off after 30-60mins of no use.

Never leave my pc on, I don't need to as I can wait a week between watching tv shows instead of downloading a series in one go

Puss3 and the Ring of Fire are left on standby though.
