Probably me being thick but it's annoying me,

I've got an A4 document, and put a gradient of white fading down to orange on the page.

I've got Black & Red set as my brush colours, yet when I use them they're white?

I've tried other layers and its still white, can anybody help?

Done it now, still no idea how though
