The rear end is a Mk1/Mk2 golf (I don't think there was much difference) front end is MK3 with mainly Mk4 golf engines and gearboxes, but it uses a similar chassis to the Polo 6N

I also thought they were based purley on the polo of the same generation, guess this explains the poor chassis then.

They are based on the polo, but have a slightly different chassis from what I understand, the polo is also made up of those parts

Mk3 is a mix and match between a mk3 golf and a 6n Polo,

Mk4 is a 6l Polo

I've never really been in/around a 6N Polo, but guess they are made up of Golf parts, but the Ibiza's always have better engines and specs to the Polo's

Pow, Mk4 is a 9N polo (6L is the MK4 Ibiza code )
