sold an xbox360 on ebay on the 30/3 and got this email this morning
Hi Jeff
so we hooked it all up this morning, and the Xbox is showing three red lights in the ring of light, which indicates an internal hardware error. We initially put in one of the games which came with it, and the it worked fine for 5 mins, but then the screen froze up. Now the red lights are flashing and we cannot get it to work at all, and all information on the internet regarding this error message indicates that it needs to be repaired when it is flashing this error.
Is there anything you can suggest? Obviously it is very disappointing to find that the product I have paid for does not work
Any response would be gratefully appreciated.
when i sold this is was fully working....should i give them the money back and end up with a broke console?

Does it have a warranty? Tell them to send it off if it does, if it doesn't and they bought the console knowing the console didn't have a warranty so its out of your hand.

If you sold it working, and they say it isn't, you could refund them, but you would be out of pocket when it comes to having a broken console and repairing it.

Did you write down any serial numbers for the console??Just incase they have swapped it for a faulty unit and are trying to rip you off.

if paypal get wind of this then you'l probably lose
it seems a bit strange his wording on the email though, almost like he pre planned it, he seems to know far too much to have been just a random person that bought a faulty console, whats his feedback like

just in this morning
PS according to the Xbox website, we can get it repaired for free if it is within 3 years of first purchase - how long have you had the console? Also we cannot apply for this repair, as the console is currently registered to you
feedback ok

any scufs/marks on the console enabling you to identify it? if so take a look and see if they match, just make sure to take off the front panel and check the warranty seal is intact (swapping the case would break this)

My understanding is that XBOX will continue a warranty for the R.R.O.D as they had messed up so long as the seals are intact internally as bassline suggested.
Tell them just to send it off...

they must want to check if this has been repaired or if it can be repaired for free. they have the serial number but to log in and to log a repair i think they need to sign in.

My thoughts exactly.
I can't see the ebay links at work, did you not take a photo of the serial or the back of the machine that could be enlarged and used for id ?
Moreso did you send it in its original box ? Were there any distinct rips in the paper or tare's that you could distinguish it ? If so does the box have the serial code to match the xbox ?

You sold as is. If it was working when you sold it, its their problem tbh, not yours.
