By a few kg's. An XE will win all ends up. And for the love of fuck if someone brings the torque argument into this I will commit atrocities.

This is as old as Big block Vs Small block.

16v will pull harder top end, more scope for tuning.

But

8v will feel like it pulls harder low revs, loosing out top end. Plus when it goes bang it cost bugger all to replace the engine.

IssacHunts 8v Turbo nova ran 11's (on slicks) so the engines arn't that bad.

If you're going turbo you want to start with an NE, otherwise you want to look for the SEH. NE is a bit limp wristed...

to add some facts instead of the waffling above. Both engines were available in the calibra. The ne was considerably slower. The end.

hmmm i wasnt aware of that information. Puts a whole new spin on to things. The astra gte 8v i had which was the more powerful seh engine was slower than the astra gte 16v i had after it. Although corsa is lighter so i am unsure.

the c20ne is lighter than the XE and has more torque in a lighter shell like the corsa it could be faster than yours nic? its a possibility...

the real question is pal, would a c20ne be quicker than an x18xe1 as tbh i have never been so bored driving cars with those engines so i wondered which would be less boring.

AS said, Issac Hunts Nova with 2.0 8v Turbo'd done 11.4 I think on slicks. Much cheaper to replace parts too.

Sure the 16v is faster, but for simple plodding around the 8v is quite torquey low down. It hasn't got as much torque as the 16v believe it or not, but its torque curve is lower down, so doesn't need revving as hard.

Of course when you get to revving and outright power, the 16v will easily pull away.

8v is still a good strong cheap engine though.

oh sorry vxr i was responding to the question of what is faster as standard when put in a corsa. Quite confusing this thread now if its about plodding around as well.

A redtop will always still be faster.

Simple maths. Power, weight. An XE is slightly heavier, but will still be quicker than an 8v in standard format.
