Sorry but thats the fault of the drivers.
The Transfer boxes need to be serviced regulary, and most of them are not.
Don't service them, it'll go pop. Running standard power should not break them unless they are ragging it everywhere, or its not been serviced.
As a 4x4 system it sucks, but as a standard 204bhp engine transfer box, it runs fine.

It's the fault of the engineers for designing such a shitty system. You can tell what GM said:
"We want a 4x4 system to be cool like Ford, but we don't want to pay for it..."

I stand by the statement that they wanted a 4x4 system on the cheap.

Calibra was a cheaper car than the cosworths.
It was never a rally bred race car so never needed a hugely brilliant transfer box.
If you kept up the services, the transfer box on a standard engine would be absolutly fine. I even think it would be ok on a phase 2.
Vauxhall ARE cheap cars, not motorsports cars.

who go throught the effort of using a historically good systerm which was massively underdeveloped
if your doing all that work, use a decent system in the first place

this would be technically correct, if they hadnt taken the 4x4 rallying, or indeed won BTCC titals ?

if anything the vaux stuff is more complex than the ford so i wouldnt say cheaper. Its basically similar to audi stuff now. Perhaps it was just before its time.
