I know this is a vx site and might even be in the wrong section but im sorry about that as im trying to find as much advice as possible with my lcr...

as me and my mechanic are stuck now and the next step is taking the engine apart.

im wondering if someone could help me and offer some advice on the problem ive been having with my leon cupra r...

around 4 weeks ago i got a tapping noise all off a sudden when i just pulled up on to my driveway luckly...anyway i had no EML light or oil pressure lights so i asked around to order a new pickup pipe for the oil pump which i then degreased the sump while i was at it to make it all nice and shiney,while i was at it i did a oil and filter change again currently using 5w30 castrol..

Started her up and its still the same...so we checked the oil pressure and its 3bar @idle and 2.3 @ 80c on idle....so its still in the reqs for the pressure we've also changed the vvt tension and 5 lifter on cyle 1 and its still the same...then changed the lifters on cyl 2 with the new 5 ones i bought and still the same..It defo sounds like its coming from cyl 1 and 2...

theres no power loss or lumpy running what so ever runs fine apart from this horrible noise..

Can't view YouTube on my phone but does it have a dual mass flywheel? Does it go when you drive a little bit in gear? Also have known the main cap bolts to break or come loose.

its defo coming from the head not the gearbox side of things...

Just hope it aint a rod or anything..

if it was bottomend it would tend to knock/rattle more when hot.

not had a stethoscope on it to try and pin point the noise??

defo isnt the injectors as its coming from the head...

yeah the noise is coming from cyl 1 or 2..

Injectors blocked running lean and det'in?
Though would probs be dead by now

its sounding more like bottom end if you have changed the lifters and are sure its cyl 1 or 2

have you driven the car much in the 4 weeks? has it got any worse?

no havent driven it....as it came just out of the blue....when it happend i hand booted it that week...normal oem driving

What sort of noise is it? It is like a metallic clinking or a tappety noise? It could be pinking on the cylinders. Try running a cylinder cleaner through it - Redex etc.

any unusual wear on the old lifters/cams ? ie could it be a blocked oilway?

sounds like when i dropped a washer down the sparkplug hole by accident in my 106gti, started it and it made an awful tapping/banging noise at first then it went away i assumed it just welded itself into the head somewhere, ran fine for ages after too

Sorry my laptops awful for videos and it jumps and freezes.

It sounds like something is loose or broken somewhere. Have you checked all your cam lobes? It sounds like my mates punto when he snapped a lobe.

The way id do it would be to take the rocker cover off and have a look around. If nothing is obviously broken then put towels round it covering the rest of the bay and then start it up. You should have a better chance of pinpointing exactly where its coming from

Id be tempted to run a "good" oil flush through it for an hour, then change the oil.

It sounds like top end starvation.

Does it sound more towards the back of the head? as the exhaust mani's are known to crack between cyl 1 and 2

We've done the compression test today and its

Cylinder 1 : 10 bar
Cylinder 2 : 10 bar
Cylinder 3 : 11.5 bar
Cylinder 4: 11.5 bar
