Got a problem with my O/S headlight which has HID's fitted. It's starting coming on intermittently and I noticed earlier on that its making a clicking sound, so I think it might be a knackered ballast.

mine did that my ballast use t clcik the light came on for about a second then went off again i just got another ballast

One of the ones for my golf went off and wouldnt work for a couple of days (checked connections etc then it was fine for months  I put it down to them being cheap.

check all connections, mine had the same problem noticed it was the earth wasnt earthed properly if that helps?

Mine doesn't have a separate earth, just uses the old bulb connections. I did check all the connections and the seem fine

On a serious note, will be your ballast no doubt. My mate's Twingo keeps doing exactly the same and is the ballast.

Sounds like the smoke thing from lost.
Mine made that exact noise when the bulb wasn't connected, swap the bulbs over to see if its a chuffed bulb.
