Do they make a USB pen that's wireless? That you can connect to either wirelessly by mapping a drive or somehow connects within a certain proximity?

Would be quite cool, pen having a password and just connect to it if it was on your keyring or pocket etc...

Maybe i'm living in the dark ages and havn't come accross it yet...?

When i've tried to Google it it just comes up with Wireless adapters.

a USB drive would need a power supply

Problem is the unit would a fair amount bigger than a usb pen (think MiFi size) as you'd need a half decent sized battery. A wireless storage device would be pretty handy, although it's easier to carry a decent sized usb stick (16/32GB) and just use that.

My MiFi from three does it, but its hardly USB stick sized.

Look it up on the Three website. Creates a little wifi zone which you can connect to. It has a slot in the side for MicroSD cards which can be accessed remotely (IIRC).

You can get WIFI NAS (Wireless network area storage) devices. I bought last year, they are pretty useful, you can plonk it somewhere in your house/office and access it over the WIFI. You can also plug a USB stick into it and it will share it over the network

Yeah, i've got one of those.

Bascially i'm just wanting something wireless, to save sticking a usb pen in / extention lead in the back of old manky desktops.

Yeah. Charge up via USB and can (apparently) serve a wifi network for 8 hours off a charge. Not tried that out.

Once disconnected you just carry it about and the wifi stays up for as long as you like. Can be stopped and started via a few buttons as/when needed.

Actually, I've just searched and it seems access to the remote storage isn't possible without seriously hacking the firmware.

What ever you get you'll still have to plug it into something to join it to the network (configure web etc).. Why not just have a laptop with a public share?
