Filled up with fuel yesterday...
Was driving today and could smell petrol, first thing that came to mind was a leak, checked everywhere, even checked my shoes and the car mats to see if I had got it on my feet.
No leak, no smell on the mats...
Checked the behind the petrol flap...
I had only left the cap on the roof of the car!
No idea where it is, looks like a trip to the scrappy for me tomorrow

I just thought I would share my stupidity and I'm very sure quite a few people have done it before.

That's why I like my VW, it's actually attached to the car so I can't do stupid things like this.
Something like this;

My 1st car was a nova and despite the cap locking with the key, I still managed to leave it on the roof once.
I filled up at the trafford centre then drove straight to Blackpool... by the time I'd got there I had hardly any fuel and was like WTF? Went to fill up again then realised.
I drove back that night (with a temporary plastic cap in place) and it was still there lay in the road
