Sand it off (including old paint where not rusty, down to bear metal)

Then simply hammerite it?

Or would it be better to use some kinda rust treatmeant (krust kinda thing) between. Reason I ask is I am repainting my ARB today

Not sure, i would put some krust stuff on as it will help prevent it rusting a bit longer.

When i did mine i took it to work shotblasted it to bare steel then coated it in Sermaguard (this anti corrosion stuff we use at work) then painted it with spray cans
