Taking the head off my astra soon to do the valve stem seals, but is there any jobs worth doing while its out, or just do the seals and stick it back on? Thinking of putting a X20XEV inlet cam in before it goes back in too...

Just get it skimmed and new head gasket, and put it back on.

Replace the other gaskets from the headset, inlet gaskets etc and re-lap the valves.

Don't bother skimming it unless it's overheated badly at some point. The only reason you would want to do it would be if it was warped but if you're just whipping it off to do stem seals I'd say it's a waste of time, effort and cash.

Lap the valves in, making sure theres a nice grey mark right the way around the valve face and valve seat...ex valves wil no doubt need mre work as the seat tends to pit.
As for skim i tend to give an alloy head a slight reface, also if you mark the face getting the head off its a good idea to have it done

How much would you charge to do that, valve stem seals and put a X20XEV inlet cam in? Not many reputable companys around here to do it

inlet cam you could fit yourself, its just a case of boltings/torqing it down, just need to check on both cams that they time up the same.

Im sending the head off to phillip anyway, hes going to see if they need done, there's 112k on the head, so they might need doing.

Fair enough, I was just thinking it would add a fair amount onto the cost. Assuming you do it in the same way as the XE's it's a bit of a pain in the arse.
