a lifetime guarantee on all Vauxhall cars taking immediate effect

quote:
Vauxhall has announced that all of its new cars will come with a lifetime warranty.

The move, which takes immediate effect, steals the initiative from Kia, whose standard seven-year warranty has helped establish it as a mainstream player in the UK car industry

(by lifetime they mean 100k miles and only applies to the first owner)

You don't have to keep it forever do you?

Besides, it's not 'Lifetime' literally...

quote:
The Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty covers all models in the manufacturer's line-up and applies to the first owner of any Vauxhall registered from August 1 2010 for the lifetime of ownership, or up to 100,000 miles

Cover extends to fleet and retail sectors and appies to all major components throughout the car's life, including powertrain, steering system, brake system and electrical equipment. Upkeep of the warranty relies on customers visiting a Vauxhall dealer annually for a free vehicle inspection

Am I missing something?

It looks like it applies only to the first owner..

So if you buy a second hand corsa b its not going to be covered.

In the small print it will probably say "you must service it with us every 5000 miles" and the cost of that service will be millions each time

been told about this at work, as far as i know you have to visit a dealer every year for a free check only, servicing can be done anywhere as long as genuine parts used etc. seems a banging deal will be swapping in the family wagons for new ones me thinks..

The safety check thing is nothing new, with cars getting more and more reliable its even longer before a dealer sees them

Some new alfas are on 21k service intervals

This would be the only reason to buy a new car for me, if I could guarantee none of the expensive parts like gearboxes, manifolds, exhaust systems, engine internals etc will fail on me and leave me up shit creek.

Still doesnt beat buying a 5 year old well cared for motor though £ for £

Ive owned my mark 4 astra since new (53 reg).

Its on 95k and will pretty much be keeping it until it dies!

I like the car and intend on keeping it for alot longer!

So there is a few of us out there that keep the car from pretty much day 1!
