When I worked there, if you got out the shop with whatever it was you had we didn't chase you anymore, store policy so the security staff dont get murdered in the inevitable fight when they caught up with you. We left it up to the police, so you could pretty much walk out with a TV and never get caught

some bloke resembling Linford Christy run out with a LCD tv under his arm last weekend and proceeded to do what looked like a four minute mile with the slightly over-weight security guard following about 100 yard behind until he run out of puff.
