First oil change meant i could see the impact of my magnetic sump plug!
Dont know quite what to expect but this is what i got.

Had a fair bit stuck to it, but not all of that pictured was metal filings. Impressive, i think?

All that crap in the oil, unless it's been there over time and it's the first time you've drained since fitting.

Its not worrying in the slightest imo. It will prob be just as bad next oil change.

If it wasnt for the magnetic plug, you would never know about it anyway.

Well its been rebuilt, done over a 1000 miles and been driven hard-ish recently. So I was due to expect something was I not?

I'm not implying that I do oil changes at 1k btw but it was advised after the engine work.

You would get it in any engine, well unless its some F1/Touring car/race car style of thing.

Just put it back in, and forget it until next oil change.

Ill just look at it as at least what was stuck to it isn't still somewhere in the engine even if it is a bad amount. Could have been worse and still be in there

You should see what they look like from a motorbike where the gearbox and engine share the same oil! Its like someone emptied a pot of of glitter every time you change the oil

My K7 GSX-R 600 has a magnetic sump plug and every oil change I see more metal filings than that but it's probably mostly gearbox shavings. It's perfectly normal for the bike (and other bikes), I guess it's the same with cars?

Cars have survived just fine for years without magnetic sump plugs. They are in the same league as fuel cleaner and pouring energy drinks into your petrol tanks.

Think there was some plonker on a bike forum who poured NOS energy drink into his fuel tank thinking it was some fuel/injection cleaner or something! LOL!
