Just about to try and clean my new car for the first time, but have no kit in the flat. I am planning to go to Halfords shortly - any ideas on stuff to pick up?
I was thinking of the simple stuff - bucket(s), wash mitt, decent shampoo, drying towels/chamois, alloy wheel brush. Any recommendations? Also, anything else I want to be getting? I'll be doing a full polish/clay another day, just want to give it a simple wash today.
Only problem I have though - as I live in a 3rd floor flat, a pressure washer/hose is out of the question - how should I go about rinsing the dirt off before I actually get on washing on? I don't wanna be scratching the hell out of it by just going straight in with the wash mitt. Will just throwing a couple of buckets over it be good enough?

do u have a jet wash station near u? couple of quid in that if the car is really bad, then wash it at home.

I find a large watering can works best if you don't have a hose.
I'd recommend triplewax car shampoo, pretty cheap, leaves a great shine and smells great to boot. Meguiars water magnet for drying (although I've heard people say these scratch the paintwork I've never had a problem), turtlewax noodle wash mitt and a good stiff wheel brush.

Just use yourself a few buckets. One with a decent shampoo and a few with clean warm water to rinse off. Take it steady and try not too rub in excess grit. For now, concentrate on giving it a decent dry off with a good quality towel/ shammy and maybe invest in a speed detailed to remove smears in a quick wash.

I would use a big watering can to rinse it of before you wash it, as I tried using a bucket at TVL and ended up with a soaked leg 
Your list sounds good though, but remember to get a wheel cleaner if you don't have one already. My dad uses the AG one and it seems to work alright.
Oh yeah, get a big MF towel instead of a chamois as the chamois will wreck the paint the same way a sponge does. If they don't have big MF drying towels then get a pack of a couple of normal MF cloths. They do the same thing but you'll need to wring it out more often.

get to asda and get 6 kent mf cloths for £2 a kent wash mitt for £3 then to halfords and get what ag on 3for2 as you can lol

you can pic up a 12v pressure washer fromaround 65 quid, not quite as good as the real thing but ideal if you live in a flat
