Hiya,
Basically me head gasket went on me 1.2 8v corsa b, me and me bro in law have stripped it down, replaced the head gasket obviously after cleaning both the head and the block surfaces, we fitted it all back up, started up the car and it sounded fine run fine etc, about 4 miles later it started to make a tappetty noise REALLY loudly and the car started to splutter and my engine management light was flickering on and off, we've stripped it back down and we can't see any damage anywhere. Anybody got any ideas? Sorry if I've been a bit vague just eating my tea at the same time.
Thanks a lot

May seem a stupid question; did u put the headgasket the right way around so it wasn't covering any oil galleries?

Do you change the oil and filter after swapping the headgasket?
Was the head checked for deformities or cracks?
Did you check the timing was right before stripping it down?

This is the thing, we've bought 2 gaskets now to make sure it's the right one because the holes match up except some of them have got on the gasket one tiny hole and a big one...where as on the head it's one elongated one. We didn't change the oil but when we dropped the oil out the other day there was no water or cream in it. We haven't had the head checked or pressure tested, also the timing was bob on before and after...stuck for ideas now.

Has the old gasket failed? Any signs of water/oil/gases getting through?
I'd be getting the head checked over personally.

Have you trapped a sensor wire when refitting the head?
Where is the tapping noise coming from?

Should have been done the first time round to find the cause of the HG failure.

Well that's where I guessed it failed due to age, as they tend to do, tapping noise is coming from the tappets like there's no oil getting to them but I've cleaned out the oil channels on the block and the head.

Not being funny mate but you can't go guessing this type of thing. Personally the head would of been sent of for a pressure test and light skim.
I have in the past not had the head looking at after HG, Although on those occassions I did use a straight edge to judge if the head was warped.
