When i say short distance im talking 2 miles
I drive 2 miles each day to work maybe 3 max if i take the "long" way round, im currently looking at getting a new car looking at 2.0 na engined cars & seen a few petrol turbo car's now this may sound completely stupid so bare with me on this one
Driving such a small distance evrey day can this have any bad effects on the engine or none at all?

According to the magnetec advert if the oil doesn't warm up it causes damage to the engine

apparently it can as it doesnt warm well, so you are driving on cold oil etc all the time.

Take it for a good drive at the weekend and it'll be reet. Mine goes down an NSL road and a 50 road on the way to work, even though it's only 5 miles away. I'm hoping that gets it warm enough

As said, it doesn't get upto temp but there's not really much you can do about it. Obviously just keep revs down etc.

I certainly wouldn't be thrashing it to work i barley get over 40 as my village is only a mile away from the town i work in just wondered if such short jouneys would have much effect on the turbo or any other component

A 1.8/2 litre turbo car around town will be shite on petrol, in all honesty have you thought about buying a push bike? Seriously.

Ifs it new it doesnt matter what you do with it.
Just keep revs nice and low and every month or so take it on a longer run!

I think thats the issue here, he only does a max of a 3 mile journey - surely nowhere near enough time for it to warm properly?
I worry about my 2l Diesel on the 7 mile trip to work, consists of 1 mile 30mph, 1 mile 40mph, 2 miles at 50-60mph and then 3 miles at 70mph ish on cool / cold mornings like we are starting to get back to the temp gauge for the water barely hits 90c by the time I get to work, let alone the oil

Can actually touch my engine when I got to work.
I drive about 1/4 of a mile. I know it sounds lazy but I need my car throughout the day.

as long as when your on a long run you give it some beens to clear injectors etc then there is little else you can do
It will be running on choke so over fuelling so the like;y hood is the plugs etc will just need chnaging more often as will the oil

I know with my Corsa it used to run like a bag of shit if you did lots of short runs where it never got warm enough to get off choke. Not sure what new cars are like for it, never do short runs in the A3.

Just do more frequent services and when you start the car up drive it away instantly to get oil temp up quicker rather than letting it sit there and idle. This is all you can do.
