ive had a really sore throat for about 4 days now, ive been taking paracetamol and cough medecine but its not going away. had a look in the mirror last night and seen down one side of my tonsiles ive got a white puss kind of, had a quick look on the net and it seems ive got tonsilities
ive not had anything to eat yesterday or today as it is agony to swallow, just been drinking water but even that is agony. i cant go and see my gp to get antibiotics as they are shut at the weekend and will be shut on monday as its a bank holiday.
ive been taking paracetamol and gargling warm water to try to take some of the pain away. anyone know of anything else i can try? any help would be much appreciated

Gargle salt water. It stings like anything and tastes horrible but helps. I used to get it loads when i was young and i just went to the docs for anti inflammatory's and then just used salt water and it used to go quite quickly.

Difflam spray is fairly effective at numbing the pain and inflamation but doesn't last too long, ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory so will help with the swelling of the glands and as already said in this thread things like ice cream help a lot with soothing.

Dispersible aspirin is also very good for gargling and I forgot to mention in my last post that you can take paracetamol and ibuprofen at the same time as they contain different ingredients that dont effect each other.

Gargle salt water a few times a day, I also used to gargle mouth wash a lot too and they have both helped clear mine up in the past without going to the doctors.

The only reason I didn't have mine out last year is that I started reading the horror stories about having them out at a later age I thought fuck it, I can put up with it. I get it once a year probably.

I used to get tonsilitis all the time when I was younger, and never got them taken out
Apparently you can still get tonsilitis even after you've had them out

I get it roughly 3 times a year and have always been told this by doctors, its the reason why I've never had mine removed.
