That's usenet, no SSL though although it's usually a lot worse than that ie: 50kb/s tops. Torrents i usually do a bit better at around 200-300kb/s. 10pm-midday is fine though, using usenet i can max it out 2.1/2.2mb/s.
Btw, who do use for a Usenet provider?

That's pretty shit, since I've had usenet I've always used SSL. If your provider has it, definitely get it!
I use Astraweb $11/month, roughly £7. However if you buy a year in advance, you can get it for $96 - $8/month.
They have servers in both US and EU - with SSL ports on 443 and 563. Upto 20 connections. 822 days retention.

Will have a look into them as it's probably time for a change.
But i've only had these issues since VM upgrade my upload, before that i could max it out day and night as long as i didn't fall into the traffic management during the day.

Astraweb's website looks terrible, it's well dated but they do the job and are so much cheaper than other places, last time I checked they had the best retention too.

Is it slow on the V+ box? If so, ask Virgin for a new remote as our older controls are a nightmare with the V+. Once you get a new remote the "sticking" when you turn the channel over and through the menus is basically gone.
When it comes to our speeds you can be really lucky if you get our 50mb modems. I've been to 2-3 customers who have been lucky enough to be given an uncapped modem and getting around 150mb speeds, i've had 75mb personally too. 100mb is being rolled out and that's currently causing a lot of issues but will be sorted fairly quickly imo.
All in all, we can't be touched on BB services, but TV is each to their own. Some customers can't praise us enough, others just absolutely fucking hate us and just want to go to sky, which is fair enough

Go take a look on the virgin media broadband forums, and you will see with the traffic shaping they implemented how unstab;le and oversubscribed their servers are atm.
I am thinking about moving from virgin and the traffic shaping has hit online gaming badly and has also recently started to effect x box live. I game quite alot and many people in the UK have been affected by this also. Loads of pissed off people out there.

How does that work? I thought modems on the DOCSIS system had to have a profile (got during sync, sets the up/down streams for anyone that didn't know) set before data can be exchanged on the network? Does this mean that there are 'unlimited' profiles on VM's network?
