Did vaux do any RWD boxes for the smallblock engines?
I know the omega had them for the xe's etc but can't think of a 1.6 RWD vauxhall

Also, do the R25 and R28 bolt straight up to a 20xe?

search - bill falconer on google, he does a rwd kit for the 14/16xe engines as they have same bellhousing pattern as the 20xes, mate has an omega box in his 20let kadett c and its lasted well enough, but if going 1600 id of thought you would have something pokey and better off with a type 9 box and suitable bellhousing

20xe it is then. If there ain't a simple bolt on box I can't be bothered with the hassle.

I'm no expert but have a look at the Manta boxes. I know you can get them to fit the big block engines.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

ford box would be better. but the rwd omega box will work...but you have to use hydraulic clutch and space the release bearing to work like me and mate did on his kadett c

I bought an SBD bell housing and it was something like £240 so not silly money You could always get one of these to go with it http://www.drenth-gearboxes.com/products/gearboxes/dg400-gearbox.html

bellhousings you could get from £100 second hand. but the omega box would fit the 1600 and 1400xes the bellhousing is the SAME bolt pattern, just have to play with the release bearing and flywheel

as philip2 said, with custom fly, or a type 9 with xe bell housing and custom fly and pitch fork.

Why a custom fly wheel? Just use a clutch plate with the right spline!

no, you can do it by using a custom clutch plate with the f20 spline if fitting a f20,
people use custom flywheels as the c20xe clutch is bigger and has a better torque capacity,
and also means you can buy off the shelf clutch kits but it isn't the only way
