Just looking at one, Its a 1.8 taking that they did some n/a models aswell as the turbo
Wouldn't want the 2.0, Heared they are slow and thirsty!
Idealy after a turbo but seen a 1.8 local to me which looks in decent condition!

I didn't think the 1.8 N/A was even put in the MK4 Golf? According to Parkers it wasn't

I've just looked at there's definitely 1.8 N/A listed on Parkers in the MK4. They're underneath the Anniversary one for some reason

They definately did a non turbo 1.8 have seen quite a few.
Both the 1.8 and the 2.0 n/a are slower than a corsa sport iirc

Yep they did.
1.8 20v - Non Turbo - 125bhp
2.0 8v - Non Turbo - 115bhp
1.8 20v Turbo (Like mine) - AGU Engine code 150bhp
1.8 20v Turbo - AUQ engine code 180bhp.

They would be, same/less power than a corsa and a few 100KG's heavier!

1.8 n/a and 2.0 n/a are slow as fuck and still drink the juice. My 1.6 corsa out done the 1.8 gti and 2.0 gti mk4 golfs.
Mk4 1.9 Gt Tdi 130 is where its at
130bhp 228lbs and still get 52mpg (ive had 69mpg over 44 miles) Then remap to 180bhp and 290lbs and they become more economical

The GTI models were;
1.8 20v Turbo with 150bhp
and
2.0 8v with 115bhp
They also done a 1.8 20v non turbo. This produced 125bhp.
If you are looking to modify and increase performance on a mk4 golf the 1.8t is the way to go. if you are just looking for a car go for the 1.8 20v N/A this isnt much slower than the turbo model just 0.4sec more to 60mph and produces much better mpg due to not having the turbo. However a simple re-map from r-tech or revo till take the 1.8t up to around 200bhp dependant on engine code. AGU has a KO3 turbo, this is the most basic and ill produce around 190-200bhp with a remap. The later engines such as AUM ect have a KO3s turbo which when remaped can produce 210bhp.
