...when you're on a single lane road, and you see a gritter spreading coming towards you, there is nowhere to go, and the noise of the splat on your car makes you shudder.
Does it actually do any damage, to the paint? Would hate to be in a new car when that happens! Makes a hell of a racket when you're both going at speed

I always hide from them. A mate of mine pulled out, saw it coming and reversed back down the side road before

Its been happening to me a lot recently in a new car , I don't think it would do any damage unless you got out with a sponge and rubbed all the grit round in circles

I think it sounds a lot worse than it actually is. Been 'got' a few times and I can't see much in the way of damage, no worse than the gravel and stuff you get on the motorway.

Aggregate lorries on the motorway that have recently dumped their load are worse tbh.

Had one before. Driving along a dual carriageway following one that wasn't gritting. One of the lanes was blocked with snow, when he turned it on to start gritting.
When I had a courtesy car a couple off years back, I decided to see how close I could get to one. Front of the car was full of grit. Made a horrible noise!

Of course they damage, it's like stones hitting your car at 70mph or whatever speed you're doing, it sounds terrible
I turn off the motorway if I see them and sit for 5 mins or take a different route if I can

only ever met them on motorways or dual carriage ways so just slow down to miss the spray off them until theres a gap to floor it past them .

Don't care really, the splinter is half hanging off the astra and it wouldn't go back on with kicking it so its still hanging. I try and get behind lorries on wet roads because the spray cleans the car for me
