Gf's dads mk1 facelift 1.6 focus has a really really bad clunking/ ratlle

Only happens when revd

Best way I can think to describe it even though I dont know what it sounds like is really bad piston slap......

A garage has said crankshaft or piston

Agree with 'IvIarkgraham'. If its bottom end then you'll struggle to get shells for. I take it theres plenty of oil in it?

Either a 2nd hand engine or get an exchange bottom end but then you'll have to pay for a head gasket etc so best bets a 2nd hand motor.

So can crankshaft or the piston thats goosed not be replaced?

would need it all stripped and rebuilt and a replacement engine will work out to be less then the rebuild but iwth a rebuild you know whats done you might engine up buying an engine that ends up doing the same thing after a while
