I fitted new wheels to my car a few weeks ago and done them up really tight, much tighter than I should to be honest but I'm always paranoid about them becoming lose. They were fine for ages, then driving down the motorway I felt a weird knocking noise and after a bit of an examination I realised the bolts were loose in the front left wheel EXCEPT for the locking wheel nut. Every other bolt on every other wheel was fine.

Do you think this is possible to happen or do you think someone tried taking the wheels and then realised?

EDIT: It wasn't even gradual, I parked at Bluewater and came out, drove carefully onto the motorway and then at 70mph I heard it. Before then I was ragging the car around with no sound at all...

Did you torque them all up? they shouldn't just come loose, I would say someone has tried to take them or someone has tried to make you crash.

They wasn't torqued to the specific amount but they were tighter than advised. Is there anyway that can be worse? I'm not talking stupidly tight, no where near enough to round the bolt or anything but pretty much pushing down hard on a long breaker bar.

Yeah I was parked where the climbing wall entrance is. I was actually parked next to a Ferrari very close to the entrance so it seems unlikely to be honest but I can't see only 4 wheel bolts coming lose on the same wheel when I done them up tight and no other bolt has come lose...

I dunno what to think but I'm checking every time I use the car now, it's got me proper paranoid...

Id say someone tried to pinch them.

probably attention drawn to the car by the fact it was parked next to that lol. To be honest in there no matter how close to the entrance if someones jacking the wheels up nobody will say anything as it will just look like they are changing a wheel.

It's weird because they're just standard Octavia vRS wheels, it's not like they're anything special as such but I suppose it's an easy £400-500 quid if they can get them.

Easy to sell Standard alloys. You'd never spot them on eBay I guess.

But how many 612 owners would buy them selves some alloys on ebay or off some dodgy bloke 'down the pub'?

I would say someone had tried to pinch them. I think the only time they would come loose if you did them finger tight. Any sort of stiff turning on the spanner would hold them in enough i would say.

Same thing happened to me, took wheels off to paint calipers, put them back on, then my mate asked if i had tightened them. I said "ermm, yeah" so he went over them all again.

Few days later and im missing a bolt and the others are 1 turn left. Locking bolt was in tight though :s

this tbh

check you have the correct bolts when changing wheels, so many people never bother and don't realise.
