By law is there a set distance you can drive? Cut a long story back i'm buying an old car of mine but its 300miles away and the tax and mot have run out. If i book it into a garage back home can i drive it the 300miles to there??
cheers Jock

You can drive to and from a pre-booked MOT test but I think you would have a hard time convincing the court that the only place you could get was 300 miles away.

The only time you can drive it without tax is if your driving it to an MOT center (at a suitable distance) then after that you must return it back to the registered address. Then you can go and get your tax etc. etc.

You can be fined for not showing a valid tax disk as well which isnt the same as having tax or no tax

In 300 miles there is also a fair chance that you'd get picked up by a police car with ANPR. There are so many more reasons why you ought to trailer it though!

I phoned up VOSA regarding the rule where you could drive your car to a different location for repair. They said there was no distance limit so I happily drove my car with no MOT from Birmingham to London. In practice, I wonder what the police would have said if they pulled me...

Knowing the Police these days I believe that excuse wouldn't have washed and it would have been trailered away and you would be left on the hardshoulder of the M40.
