I am converting my 1.6 next year to a redtop,but I'm just wondering what brakes are best to convert to calibra,astra or are the Corsa 1.6 brakes ok to use? And wood I need to change the gearbox? Cheers

I ran standard 16 Sport brakes on my XE.

They all use the 256x24mm. So use those.
Yes the gearbox will need to be changed as you're going from a smallblock to a bigblock

1.6 brakes are enough dude you wont cook them

they were sent out of the factory with more than enough stopping power to bring the car from 130+mph, with a car of 5 people, and a full tank on fuel.. so an engine thats about a bag of sugar heavier, and do about 10 mph more, in my opinion, keep the sport brakes. plus the bigger pistons on the calipers will demand more fluid, then theres the risk of by the time you use a set of pads, it drains the brake fluid resivoir first, and thus the risk of no brakes when you really need them. and from experience, i've slowed from 152mph on the tomtom, using 1.2 16v brakes with drilled discs and stopped on a penny, V6 brakes were designed for a V6 on a bigger car... its a vauxhall corsa with 150bhp... its hardly 300mm+ brakes territory, lol.

It depends entirely what you use them for - if you just want to stop now and again then that's fine, but if you will work them hard then you'll cook them.
I cooked the standard 1.6 brakes on mine when it was completely standard - hence the upgrade.

They'll stop you once but not straight away again after. If you drive hard you'll cook them. My Vectra brakes which are the same size as the V6 ones stop me, but if I drive hard I cook them after 2-3 corners.

I tried 1.2 brakes for a few days 
Eventually went for 284's, much better

i cooked 1.6 breaks with a e16se engine under bonnet 2.0 are well better

i had 1.2 brakes on my 2.0 only driven it once though and sold it

Ive got the 2.0 brakes but not fitted them yet, im just going to use standard disks and when they are worn im going for the drilled option.
Surely theres enough fluid in the reservoir to keep these going even if the pads are low.
