I like shooting wide, and I find myself shooting wide a lot and so have considered the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 to use with my D700.
On the other hand, I need a non DX lens for my D700 that's mid zoom, i.e. the 24-70mm f2.8. (I use the 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 VR with my D200)
The 2 lenses are a similar price, (£1100-£1300).
I would use both lenses roughly an equal amount of the time.
I already have the 70-200 f2.8 which is why im looking at sub 70mm focal lengths.
f2.8 is a must.

Depends what you're shooting, or likely to shoot.
14mm isn't much better than the 18mm you've already got. If I were you I'd sell the 18-200 and get the 24-70 but thats only because I don't shoot properly wide - portraits look shit that wide

The 18-200mm is a dx lens so isn't what it says on the label and isn't fast enough. I shoot corporate conferences and bands mostly.

I few pros ive been on shoots with use a 24-70 as a standard lens which is perfect for all round shots. Id like one myself.

24-70 2.8 is an awesome bit of kit.
If your budget will allow get one, you wont be disapointed.

I can afford either of them, I just cant decide. I'm swaying toward the 24-70mm though
