Surely the scrap value isn't much more than 1-2million if the estimated steel weight is 10k tonne. So why would it sell for more than that?
Surely it's in our interest to dispose of it ourselves here and get as much money for it as the potential buyer will get.
Or am I missing something

Imagine if you won the EuroMillions you could easily have bought a pair of them and launched an attack on America

There is still value in other items on board; 10,000 tonnes of metal sure but at a 19,000 lightship displacement, there's 9,000t of other fixtures and fittings. Engine were removed iirc on Invincible as they have been on the type 42s.
I'm fairly sure the type 42s have been used for SBS (amongst others) training

It'll probably end up in Ghana, they're on the look out - bought a few ex-far Eastern Frigates/Destroyers last year - just need an aircraft carrier now

Most of the higher value potential scrap has been removed iirc. The engines were obviously removed, but lots of the hydraulics etc too.
Depending on the weapons payload carried in stores there could be some interesting COSHH issues to deal with.
Would have been quite cool to buy and turn in to a novelty driving range, 5-a-side centre or something.

Dear sir
My intentions for this here ship are to sail the seven seas in search of hidden treasure, as a young boy I always had a dream of living thy life of a pirate "ooohh arrrr" and with the beautiful Ark Royal as my vessell of choice I will be able to fulfill these dreams.
All the best
Captain BlackBird Crowe
