Im with them for BB, might look into the tarriffs when iPhone 5 comes out, providing they do it on 12 months. If not i'll just go with Tesco again.

Well on the iPhone they have a few extra tariffs but on the main site it only shows 18 or 24 month.

I'd imagine that they will do all tariffs on 12 months, but you'll be paying a LOT for the phones as obviously they'll not be guaranteed as much business from you

In comparison to what O2 offer on the iPhone as an example, I've seen better deals for the same monthly prices from Orange and Vodafone.

I've been with O2 for about 15 years I think, but I doubt they'd do me a better deal than other networks when it comes to renewal time!

Nowadays you have to work out the total cost of the contract and not just what you pay each month.

One might be £20 a month but over the term it costs you a total of £1000 whereas one might be £30pm but cost you £700.

Either way I avoid contracts when I can as 9 times out of 10 buying the phone outright and going sim only/PAYG works out much cheaper.

You only really have to shell out once too as say you buy an iPhone outright, in 12 months you sell it and just pay the difference to upgrade, say £100, which you pay on most contracts for a decent phone come renewal time anyway.

It's a joke they can advertise this as a new thing when it was the norm up until about a year ago.

This is what I do, but because I like shiny things but don't use them (read: I like a new phone but make about 20 minutes of calls a month on it ) I go for whatever contract gives me a free phone (worth around £300 at the time) + £15 a month 'credit' - so basically as long as the contract period costs me less than that I'm happy, redemption cash back is a bonus! Currently on an 18 month contract with 9 months half price line rental

I bought my phone outright and I'm on simplicity tariff
Works out cheaper than paying £45 for 2 years after cost for phone initially too!

Do the networks anticipate more demand for the iPhone due to shortage of parts from Japan or something (even though the phones are assembled in China)?
