I used to do about 14mph on my old heavy MTB, which had massive off road tyres and a non-lock out front shock. I did that when I was 14-16 too.

I average about 17mph going to work and back. Road bikes are so much more efficient than mountain bikes on the road.

so i aquired the bike yesterday. a dawes discovery 301. my house is 3miles from my mams and i managed that in easily less than 10 mins including a fucking huge bank whilst i had a really stinking hangover.

also found a cycle path that crosses the river wear so tht will shave a good while of my journey

here is the bike in question, nearly brand new just dusty as its sat ages. i know i need to sort the garage

managed to consistantly hit 17ish mph yesterday. trial run tomorrow since im off this week

tyres are way too soft though. psi should i be looking at?

It should tell you on the tyres..

I swapped my tyres out for some 38mm wide continental jobs the other day and theyre sitting at about 60psi.
