What do you do in which order to get a car back on the road, the legal way.
It is a Cat C write off that is getting repared right now.
It was bought damaged without the logbook. Do you need to get the car VIC done before applying for the logbook? I'd like to be able to drive the car to the VIC place with a full MOT and TAX.

You can get it MOTd before you take it for the Vic test. Then after the test they will supply you with a new logbook/V5.If you apply for it before the Vic test, they will just send a letter out to say you are the new keeper, but you wont get a V5 till its had the Vic test.
You wont be able to tax it though without the V5.
Do you have the new keeper suppliment??You can use that to get tax.

Oh and no, I don't have the new keeper suppliment. It was bought off a guy who buys them direct from the insurers after a car has been wrote off.

I don't know if it would be released straight after the test but i doubt it.Therefor i would just wait till after the test then apply for it.
No way of getting tax unless you know some1 in the trade who can get it.
How close is your nearest test centre??

I'm about 30 mins drive to the test centre.
I've got the last person who owned it address. I was thinking of asking them for it..... but that might end up going the wrong way.
I'll just have to get it trailered to the VIC place.

I would say thats probably the best idea in this situation.
Or just MOT it and insure it,book it in for the VIC and just drive it theyr. And if you get stopped say you cant get tax till its had the test your going for.Don't know if you would get away with it in the same sense as driving for an MOT with no tax.

I might need more information on that before risking the car and a fine which will cost more that a trailer.
Can anyone help on this matter?
So, Insure it, MOT it then book it into the VIC. Drive it there and it'd be ok with NO TAX and NO logbook?

No - you get caught with no tax (bear in mind you are driving to a VOSA site) then you will be fined

Thought as much.
Like I said, it'd be cheaper to hire a trailer.
Cheers for the help.

no tax is needed if you are booked in for a vic test, you do need mot and insurance

Oh.......
I think I'll be better off ring them up and getting a definite answer. It's not really a car I'm wanting to risk.

i have done many cars, you do not need tax you need mot and insurance. When the passes the vic you will be given documents so you can apply for a vehicle registration document application form V62, you then go to your local dvla office and you can then tax it etc. The v62 you bring with you to the dvla and they take it cast a spell then you recieve your v5 in the post few week later

I did one a couple of years back. take it your going to the Doncaster VIC centre?
I got my sister to take mine, MOT'd it, insured it through one of the day insure websites for £16, she drove it there without tax, and drove it back.
Then i got a form to apply for logbook, (V62 i think) and filled that in but with the new keepers adress cause i had alredy sold it, then left it to her to tax.

Nice one. Thanks for the link.
Yeah, I'm going to take it to the Doncaster one. I've been there twice so far.
