Anyone know where i can get a good portable power pack that allows you to use house hold items from it? Not one of those ones that plugs into the cigarette lighter but one that you can charge up in the house then take it out to the car??

You looking for a starter booster pack type thing? The Halfords own brand one seemed OK the times I've used it.

I don't think such a thing would exist. The only option would be a generator.

Is it because of the volt/amp differences?

Batteries can only provide DC, household items need AC. Most household items that don't use a DC converter will use a large amount of energy, which through a DC inverter (convert DC from a battery to AC for your item) would either drain the battery in minutes or just not work. If you've got things like phone chargers or iPod docks which run through a converter at the wall outlet you could run them off of a battery as they're already DC and low voltage. You just need to provide the electricity at the right voltage.
